Live graphic shows e-commerce orders on Shopify

Shopify, the $40bn Canadian eCommerce platform that counts Kylie Jenner’s cosmetics brand amongst its clients, released a great visual graphic on this holiest-of-holy days in modern capitalism, Black Friday.

The live graphic shows the number of orders being made on its platform around the world by geography, value and the distance the goods will have to travel:

Although it’s running a little slow times, it’s still pretty fun to watch for a few minutes. It sort of acts as a footprint for where e-commerce has penetrated (and where it has yet to do so).

No surprises that Russia and Africa are not seeing many orders. Although we did just spot one from Mauritius. It seems even the off-shore trust industry fancies a spot of online shopping.
