Automated West Coast facility designed to fulfill 485,000 daily units
VF Corporation Launches New 1.2 Million Square Foot Distribution Facility
VF Corporation, a leading portfolio of active-lifestyle brands, has recently unveiled its latest distribution center in Ontario, California. Spanning an impressive 1.2 million square feet, this state-of-the-art facility is the largest and most efficient among VF's global network of 46 distribution centers. Equipped with cutting-edge automation capabilities, the new facility promises enhanced efficiency and streamlined distribution services for VF's owned retail stores, wholesale customers, and e-commerce orders.
With renowned brands such as Vans, The North Face, Timberland, and Dickies under its umbrella, VF Corporation is poised to leverage the facility's world-class automation to expand its offerings beyond Vans and The North Face. Boasting an annual shipping capacity of 76 million units, this distribution center has the remarkable capability to ship an astonishing 485,000 units per day. Such exceptional processing capabilities, twice that of a typical distribution center, translate into next-day shipping for customers located in California, Nevada, Arizona, and southern Utah.
Cameron Bailey, the Executive Vice President of Global Supply Chain for VF Corporation, expressed his enthusiasm for the new facility, stating, "Servicing our consumers and customers is our number one focus, and this facility allows us to get our product to our consumer faster using technologically advanced equipment, which results in reduced lead times and increased efficiency in meeting consumer demands."
Sustainability
Beyond its operational prowess, the distribution center also stands out for its strong commitment to sustainability. From the inception of the design process, environmental consciousness played a central role, resulting in a facility that significantly reduces energy consumption. Notable features include energy-efficient lighting, controls, and submetering, leading to an estimated 56% reduction in annual energy costs. Furthermore, the building materials used for construction comprise 48% recycled content, while an impressive 98% of construction waste was diverted from landfill.
As a testament to its sustainable design, the facility has earned LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED, recognized globally as the foremost green building rating system, underscores the facility's environmentally responsible construction and operation. Additionally, the distribution center is on track to receive WELL Gold certification from the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), highlighting its focus on enhancing health and wellness. By integrating features such as EV chargers, indoor and outdoor restorative areas, and a state-of-the-art fitness facility on-site, the center prioritizes the well-being of its employees.
Jon Watschke, vice president of west coast distribution center transition, said the center was designed with employee health and well-being as a top priority, with the center providing EV chargers, indoor and outdoor restorative areas, and a state-of-the-art onsite fitness facility.
Recruitment for the fulfillment center commenced in early 2023, with the majority of roles already filled. As volume increases, additional operator jobs will be added to further support the facility's operations.
