The Home Depot has signed on to another large Charlotte distribution operation

The nation's largest home-improvement retailer is adding another large distribution facility in Charlotte.

Sources told the Charlotte Business Journal that The Home Depot had signed on to occupy an industrial building at Childress Klein's The Concourse, a large mixed-use project in the Steele Creek area. Home Depot (NYSE: HD) is expected to take a building of just over 603,000 square feet there. A spokesperson for Home Depot confirmed its plans for the facility in a statement to CBJ, adding the location is "part of our strategic investment in our supply chain network to offer same day/next day delivery to 90% of the United States."

Further details about the facility, including a timeline for operations and the number of jobs created, were not disclosed. Attempts to reach Childress Klein for more information on the project were unsuccessful before deadline.

The facility will be the second large distribution operation in Charlotte that Home Depot has confirmed this year. In January, CBJ reported the Atlanta-based retailer would occupy a rail-served warehouse at The Keith Corp.'s Westinghouse Logistics Park on Sam Neely Road. A spokesperson said at the time the Sam Neely Road facility was also part of the company's supply chain network expansion effort.

In May, Childress Klein shared plans for The Concourse with CBJ that showed a building of just over 603,000 square feet could be the largest of the initially planned industrial buildings at the mixed-use project. At the time, the developer told CBJ that vertical construction on the first two industrial buildings at The Concourse would start this summer. Those first two buildings would be developed speculatively and come in at 354,640 square feet and 189,280 square feet, respectively.

Childress Klein has been grading land at The Concourse, which is off West Arrowood Road, for months. The project spans 250 acres just off Exit 3 of Interstate 485 and is across from Topgolf. Childress Klein first sought the rezoning for the project in 2019 and has plans to develop industrial, retail, office, residential and hotel uses there.

The industrial component of The Concourse is part of Childress Klein's ongoing industrial activity in the area south of Charlotte. The developer has also begun site work on Nevada Business Park, a three-building industrial park on Nevada Boulevard near Carowinds.
