Best Buy Introduces Automated Forklifts as Part of Supply Chain Upgrades
Best Buy Boosts Holiday Shopping with Automation, Faster Deliveries, and Enhanced Support
The holidays are in full swing, and Best Buy has been hard at work to ensure customers can get their favorite tech gifts faster, easier, and more reliably. With a shorter shopping window between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, the company has introduced significant advancements in its supply chain, combining cutting-edge automation, expanded infrastructure, and improved delivery options to streamline holiday shopping.
Automated Forklifts Power Faster Deliveries in New York
To enhance efficiency and reliability, Best Buy has rolled out autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs) in its Nichols, NY, Retail Distribution Center (RDC). These innovations mark a major leap forward in warehouse automation, ensuring customers receive their orders on time, if not earlier.
The Nichols facility now operates approximately 20 automated forklifts, which handle nearly half of inbound pallets coming off delivery trucks. These AGVs bring a host of benefits, including:
Increased storage capacity: By operating in narrower aisles, the automated forklifts maximize warehouse space, allowing for more tech products to be stored and shipped.
Improved safety and efficiency: AGVs free up employees to focus on more complex, skilled tasks, while also enhancing workplace safety.
Expanded operating hours: Automation improves workflows, reduces delays, and enables faster deliveries, all while supporting flexible schedules for employees.
Greater accuracy and reduced damage: AGVs handle products in a soft, predictable manner, ensuring your orders arrive in perfect condition.
This investment highlights Best Buy’s commitment to using advanced technology to meet customer demand, particularly during the holiday rush.
A New Delivery Hub in Texas
In addition to warehouse automation, Best Buy has expanded its infrastructure to serve customers more efficiently. The company recently opened its 20th Delivery Distribution Center (DDC) in Lancaster, Texas. As the second DDC in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, this 800,000-square-foot facility is a major step toward providing faster, more reliable service for a rapidly growing region.
More products, delivered faster: The Lancaster DDC strengthens Best Buy’s ability to meet customer needs by supporting quicker deliveries for thousands of products.
Supporting growth: With over 80 employees, the center plays a critical role in ensuring holiday orders arrive on time, even during peak demand.
“We know how important it is to our customers to get their orders on time and to have the inventory of products they’re wanting, especially during the holiday season,” said Mark Irvin, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Best Buy. “These evolutions in our supply chain allow us to ship orders faster and get products to our customers on time, if not early.”
Enhanced Customer Support for Seamless Shopping
The holidays can be stressful, but Best Buy is making it easier than ever to get gifts when and where you need them.
Expanded delivery options: Customers can now choose from a variety of shipping solutions, including 2-Day, Next-Day, and Same-Day shipping on thousands of items.
Improved curbside and locker pickups: Inventory placement has been optimized to ensure faster curbside pickups. Customers can also track their order status directly from their smartphone lock screen for added convenience.
Live tracking for large orders: A new AI-driven live tracking feature provides to-the-minute updates for large product deliveries, giving customers greater confidence and visibility.
